Over the last 5 months, I’ve been busy with packing, unpacking and packing again. I’ve moved 2.5 times, to be exact. Just writing that out is making my head dizzy again.

The minute I hit a nail into the wall and hung the first picture is when this space went from being a house to my home.

Pictures do that. They provide a strong sense of belonging. Aside from that, the decorative aspect is an added bonus.

Art work starring faces of the people you love most? Uh..ya!

My littlest sister turned 16 last week. I’m still trying to process when she got so big..I thought this would help me figure it out.

These  couple were taken almost 6 years ago now! One of my very first “photo shoots”.

So a little while back I posted about the new compact camera I picked up. It sat in the box for quite some time before I took it out for a test run. I took a couple of shots with it and just didn’t feel satisfied. Now I know I was coming off of an awesome SLR camera and I’m used to seeing rich color right out of the camera, but still. This wasn’t going to do it for me.

G-d bless B&H and their awesome customer service. Back to the store I went in search of an exchange. What I came home with is exactly what I was looking for. There is a whole new line of mirrorless, compact cameras on the market today. You can switch out lenses and all that good stuff, but when it came down to it I didn’t want a camera that I would be busy with. I have my SLR for that. I wanted something I could keep in my back pocket or purse and instead of experiencing trips, outings from behind a lens, I could experience my life and catch some awesome shots for memory, keepsake.

So I bought the Nikon Coolpix P300. A couple of the things that got me hooked is that first of all, it had quick manual control settings at the top of the camera. So if I was in a tough lighting situation or just wanted to spend a second to get an even better shot, I could throw the camera into manual and make some adjustments. Also, I noticed the colors! It just captured great colors.

I took the camera with me on my recent travels and what I soon learned is I didn’t even need to bother with the manual settings. The camera has a “scene” feature built in. You can choose through a variety of settings like backlit, landscape, night portrait, etc.

Here are just a couple of shots:

I just can’t get enough of this face. Thank you, little sis, for giving me a little push out the door to take pictures. Always my favorite time behind the camera. <3 you!

I get asked pretty often about compact cameras, but I’ve been true and loyal to a camera that doesn’t quite fit into my purse. Yes, I love taking pictures, but it’s been years since I’ve had a point & shoot camera in my bag that goes where I go. I’m going to be doing some traveling this winter and my travel buddy is limiting my luggage to one. small. bag. So I’m thinking a bag of clothing would be a smarter choice than my 10 lb camera bag?

I ordered a compact camera and figured I’d blog about it since I can finally answer the question about which point & shoot I’d recommend. Take all of this with a grain of salt, though. Yes, I know what I’m doing with my equipment and sound like a total superdork when I talk about shutter speeds, apertures, white balance and back lighting, but I’m no techy. I did about .6 seconds of research on this one. It has great reviews so I figure it’ll serve its purpose. I ordered the Nikon Coolpix S9100 from B&H Photo. Now here are a couple of great features on this camera:

– It’s got one of the longest optical zooms in compact lightweights, combined with vibration reduction. In plain English, you can zoom out really far. When you do zoom, any slight motion can produce a blurred image so the camera reduces vibration which helps produce sharper images.

– It’s got respectable ISO performance so you can shoot in lower light settings and still produce really good pictures.

– It has a beautiful display for awesome, instant gratification. Shoot and admire.

– I’m known to be pretty trigger happy. I just love the sound the camera makes when it snaps. This camera has got a fast processor so it can keep up with my overeager finger.

Aside from that, I’m a big fan of Nikon and their glass so that was an easy choice for me.

I’ll follow this one up with some shots from my new compact once it lands. B&H is offering Free Overnight Shipping before the Holidays so I should have mine tomorrow.
